Second generation preacher’s kid, Michael is now retired from professional pedagogy to engage in casual dissipation among the sycamores along the banks of the Wabash. Californian by birth, Hoosier by choice, he has suffered from itchy feet, wanderlust, and impulsive, economically non-viable “somewhere else-itis.” He has traveled the world as teacher, actor, television clown, and a severely abbreviated stint with an improve comedy troupe.
His desultory approach to art is to create evocative pieces that please his own curious sensibilities. The aphorism “I may not know about art, but I know what I like” figures predominantly in the canon of Stoneguy Images. Observers can see the marked influence of Bob Ross, as well as an affinity for Monet, Picasso, Pollock, Rembrandt, Klimt, Chesly Bonestell and kindergarten. One might also discern a sneaking admiration for Walt Kelly, Berkeley Breathed, Gary Larson, James Thurber, a smattering Al Jaffee and Don Martin alongside the occasional homage to works found in The New Yorker.
